Why Choose
Better Way Dogs?

  • At Better Way Dogs, training is built on trust, patience, and understanding. Chloe uses positive, reward-based methods that focus on your dog’s mindset, not just their behavior. Every session is shaped around science-based principles that teach your dog through calm, consistent communication instead of fear or correction. The goal is lasting behavior change rooted in confidence, clarity, and connection between you and your dog.

  • Real progress doesn’t happen overnight. Chloe’s training helps you and your dog create reliable habits that carry over into everyday life. From leash manners to greetings and focus around distractions, sessions are structured to build calm, repeatable patterns that your dog understands and trusts. You’ll leave with simple, practical steps to keep progress going long after the session ends.

  • Training isn’t just about your dog. It’s about helping you both communicate better. Chloe’s personalized coaching shows you how to read your dog’s signals, use timing and tone effectively, and stay calm even when challenges appear. Each session is hands-on and tailored to your real world, so you know exactly what to do at home, on walks, and in new situations. The result is teamwork that feels natural and builds lasting trust.

  • No two dogs are the same, and no two homes are either. Chloe designs training plans that adapt to your dog’s personality, your schedule, and your lifestyle. Whether you’re raising a new puppy, guiding a rescue through anxiety, or improving obedience at home, the focus is always on realistic progress that works for your daily life. Training is available in-home or virtually, making it easy to stay consistent and see real change over time.

How We Help You Get Started!

Book Your Evaluation

Start with a $95 evaluation, the first step toward understanding your dog and building a plan that fits. You’ll choose a time that works for your schedule, and Chloe will use your session to observe your dog’s behavior, environment, and needs firsthand. No pressure or long-term commitment, just a clear, hands-on way to start moving forward with expert guidance.

Meet, Observe, and Learn

During your evaluation, Chloe meets with you and your dog either in home or virtually to observe their behavior, environment, and daily routines. She gathers insight into what may be driving certain behaviors and helps you understand why they’re happening without judgment or blame. You’ll walk away with clarity about what your dog is communicating and practical steps you can start using right away.

Start Your Custom Training Plan

After the evaluation, Chloe creates a plan tailored to your dog’s needs and your lifestyle. Whether it’s puppy manners, leash walking, or behavior challenges, each plan focuses on calm, lasting progress rather than quick fixes. You’ll know exactly what to expect, what to practice between sessions, and how to keep your dog’s success going long-term.

Why Choose an Evaluation Over a Consultation?

See What’s Really Going On With Your Dog, No Guesswork.

A free consultation happens over the phone or online, where trainers can only guess based on what you describe. With Chloe’s in-home evaluation, she observes your dog’s true behavior in real time. No guessing, no assumptions, just real insight into what’s actually happening.

Professional Eyes Catch What Phone Calls Miss.

Instead of general advice, you get Chloe’s professional assessment right there in your home. She helps identify the root causes behind behaviors like reactivity, anxiety, or disobedience and shows you what to do differently starting that same day.

Understand Your Dog’s Behavior at the Source.

A consultation often feels more like a pitch than a plan. An evaluation ends with clarity. You’ll walk away with a personalized plan built around your dog’s personality, environment, and goals so you finally know what steps will make a real difference.

About Us

Better Way Dogs is an in-home positive reinforcement dog training company that serves dog loving families in the Kansas City metro area.

We aim to raise the standard for dog training in the Midwestern United States by teaching dogs, pet parents, and other trainers using the power of positive reinforcement.

We provide reward-based dog training solutions for families who are experiencing nuisance or dangerous behaviors from their dogs. We modify behavior by using a variety of methods, including management, body language assessment, enrichment, gentle handling, positive reinforcement training, functional rewards, record-keeping, and referrals to other pet professionals. In our mission to advocate for dogs, we understand real change comes from meeting pet parents where they are and making small improvements toward greater goals.

Our team of trainers teach both dogs and humans with compassion. Although there are no formal requirements for becoming a dog trainer in the United States, we hold ourselves to a higher standard by pursuing continuing education and collaborating with other trainers. Our trainers are constantly looking for a better, faster, easier way to approach common issues. Above all, pet parents trust Better Way trainers to treat their dogs with kindness.

FAQ

  • We do not use shock or prong collars because while they may seem initially effective, the risk of behavioral fallout and deteriorating results are too high to justify their use. Physical punishment may be convenient for some, but at what cost? The AVSAB, ASPCA, and many other veterinary and academic organizations recommend against the use of physical punishment when attempting behavior modification. While painful collars may work for quick results, positive reinforcement trainers know that recommending physical punishment for behavior modification would be like a doctor recommending smoking cigarettes for weight loss. Shock and prong collars just have too many side effects, and it’s not the fifties anymore.

  • We do not currently offer board and trains. Aside from being a huge investment, board and trains can be ineffective for enacting long-lasting behavior modification. Often, board and trains have two to four weeks to change a dog’s behavior, and to get quick results they use physical punishment to suppress behavior. At the end of the two to four weeks, your dog may not be performing the problem behavior anymore, but over time these new habits can begin to deteriorate. Your dog has not been taught how to behave politely with you, or in your home, or without the use of physical punishment. With in-home training, you address the underlying emotions that motivate a behavior and learn how to teach your dog the benefits of being polite. Why waste your money on a board and train when you could see long-lasting results for a fraction of the cost?

  • How long will you need to buy groceries to feed yourself? Food functions as a paycheck for everyone who eats. Whether or not you choose to use treats to reinforce your dog’s behavior, your dog will always need to eat. Your vet will probably recommend that 10% of your dog’s daily diet come from treats and other goodies. These higher value treats are used when learning new behaviors to get fast and easy cooperation from your dog. Treats are used in abundance at first during acquisition so that we may use them sparsely to reinforce tried and true behaviors in the future. A great way to fade out treats and begin working with kibble is to crumble up your dog’s treats into tiny pieces and mix them in with their daily allotment of kibble.

  • Better Way Dogs uses a variety of methods to achieve behavior modification and happy cohabitation between humans and dogs. We follow the humane hierarchy of dog training, always starting by making sure your dog is healthy enough for training and your environment is set up for success. Next, we identify behavior goals and use positive reinforcement techniques such as free shaping, targeting, and the lure and reward method to achieve new behaviors. We never use physical punishment to discourage a behavior, as per the advisory of numerous veterinary and academic organizations, because we know that physical punishment merely suppresses behavior and does not enact long-lasting change. Whatever methods we choose to train your dog, you can rest assured that you will have a voice in what behavior modification methods are used for your dog.
